Made it to Quito!

We all met at the airport at 5:50 this morning and left Logan airport at 8:50 a.m. We flew into Houston where we had a four-hour layover and then we boarded the plane for Quito. Because I didn't sleep that much last night, I slept on the plane. I think we're going to be a noisy bunch!

One of the teachers found a stuffed blue-footed booby, so the animal will be traveling around with her (and us) for the 10 days. The teacher, Ms. Beath, will be taking pictures of the blue-footed booby as our adventure unfolds. I think her plan is to post pictures to her blog.

Flying to Quito, I was lucky enough to have a window seat. Looking out the window, the clouds looked like cotton. Do you all remember when we were reading The House on Mango Street and Esperanza and her friend would spend afternoons laying on the grass and looking up into the clouds? That's what the clouds reminded me of while I was sitting on the airplane earlier today. When you fly, do you like to have a window seat?

When we finally arrived at the airport in Quito, Ecuador, what was one of the first things I saw? A Dunkin Donuts, of course! Can you believe it? Betania, this picture is for you. Mary Ann DeMello, the leader of our tour, is posing in front of the famous coffee shop.

Tomorrow, we're off to the Amazon. It's a 6-hour bus ride and a canoe ride and we'll be at an ecolodge.

That's it for now.

  1. Hi Ms. Westfall!

We enjoyed hearing about your plane ride. Unfortunately, only the second picture came up for us to see. We think the firewall on the school computer is blocking the first and third pictures.

We are going to start reading the information packets you left for us on the Galapogos. We can post more questions when we are done reading. Everyone says hello, and wishes you a Happy Valentines Day!

First and Second Period Class :)
